Our Approach to Psychological Therapy | Dr. Matea Doroc
Our Approach
Patterns that once helped us manage can sometimes feel hard to shift. We give you time to explore these patterns, understand where they come from, and consider what may be possible with less influence from past beliefs or perceived limitations.
Therapeutic Approach
Therapy at The Whole Perspective
A safe and non-judgemental space
Our aim is to support people in building greater wellbeing, healthier relationships, and a more fulfilling life. We believe that lasting change begins with feeling safe enough to be yourself, and that the therapeutic relationship plays an important role in creating the conditions for growth, healing, and self-understanding.
At The Whole Perspective, we offer an inclusive and non-judgemental space where you can show up as you are and feel seen, understood, and accepted. Therapy is approached with warmth, authenticity, and respect, creating a foundation of safety from which difficult experiences can be explored openly and at a pace that feels right for you.
Sessions are intended to feel both professional and thoughtful, while still allowing space for genuine conversation, reflection, and connection. Together, we work to develop a deeper understanding of the experiences and patterns that have shaped your life, while finding meaningful ways to navigate challenges and move towards the changes that matter to you.
A whole-person approach to therapy
At The Whole Perspective, therapy is grounded in the understanding that every person has a unique story. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach or focusing solely on symptoms, we seek to understand you within the broader context of your life, including the biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors that have shaped your experiences.
Therapy is a collaborative process guided by curiosity, compassion, and respect. Together, we explore your story to develop a deeper understanding of who you are, what has influenced your experiences, and how you came to be where you are today. This may involve reflecting on questions such as:
- What experiences have shaped the way I see myself, others, and the world?
- What patterns seem to keep repeating in my life or relationships?
- How have I learned to cope with emotional pain, stress, or uncertainty?
- Which responses may have once been protective but no longer serve me in the way they once did
- What new ways of understanding myself and responding to challenges may support my wellbeing?
Through this process, therapy can foster greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and awareness, while also creating opportunities for meaningful and lasting change.
The therapy process
Therapy at The Whole Perspective aims to improve wellbeing by developing a shared understanding of who you are, what has shaped you, and what has brought you to therapy. Grounded in a Schema Therapy lens, sessions explore how past experiences, relationships, and unmet emotional needs may have influenced the beliefs, emotional responses, and coping patterns you rely on today. While many of these patterns developed for good reasons, they can sometimes contribute to difficulties in areas such as relationships, self-esteem, work, parenting, decision-making, and emotional wellbeing.
Understanding these patterns can help reduce self-blame and foster a greater sense of self-compassion. Together, we consider whether these ways of coping are still serving you and explore alternative ways of responding that better align with your current needs and goals.
Therapy is not about forcing change before you are ready. It is about developing awareness, understanding, and choice.
While reflection and insight are important, therapy is not only about talking. Meaningful change often involves experiencing and practising new ways of responding. Depending on your needs, sessions may incorporate experiential techniques such as imagery, chair work, emotional processing, behavioural practice, and skills development. Any experiential work is introduced thoughtfully and collaboratively. You will never be pushed into exercises without discussion, preparation, and consent. The aim is to support growth and change in a way that feels safe, respectful, and appropriate for your circumstances.
